Variable transformers like this single-phase, single output autotransformer from RS PRO are used to provide a voltage-adjustable source of alternating current (AC) electricity. They're commonly found in a variety of residential and industrial settings for power transmission and distribution, audio systems and power conversions. This model is built to last, with an enclosed construction and hardly any maintenance required.

The variac transformer has a commutator with silver plating that gives a smooth linear output, free from waveform distortion. It regulates efficiently thanks to the continuously variable AC output voltage with overvoltage tap. There's in-built overload protection, as well as a low magnetising current and low operating torque.

The transformer is suitable for surface, wall or floor mounting, which is easy using the screw terminals provided. Part of a professional series of 'Varivolt' transformers from RS PRO, it's been stringently tested to meet international quality control and safety standards.
