The "IS" in the name of the product stands for intrinsically safe, if an item is intrinsically safe it means that it is incapable of releasing sufficient electrical and thermal energy under normal or abnormal conditions. This results in the item not being able to cause ignition of a specific hazardous atmospheric mixture in its most easily ignited concentration.
