The TE Connectivity USB Type C charge only receptacles are a simplified version of a standard USB Type C receptacle that use the familiar USB Type C form factor for power only applications. USB charge only receptacles reduce the complexity and failure rate of the connector by eliminating most of the pins and associated solder points in the connector which also helps to reduce the overall cost. The 16 data transfer pins and 2 of the ground pins are removed, leaving only 4 power pins and 2 ground pins. The connectors mate with standard USB Type C plugs and cable assemblies that transfers both data and power, so there are no additional steps or hardware needed by the end user when interacting with the product. The customer end product can also be upgraded to a higher performance standard USB Type C receptacle with little to no change in the existing board design.
