Masking tape is for protecting and blocking off areas when painting and decorating, usually made of a thin and easy to tear the paper. The adhesive should be fairly easy to remove from most surfaces without leaving any damage or residue. The backing should also be thin and easily conform to uneven surfaces and shapes.
