StarTech Docking Station, USB Type C USB Specification, 3840x2160 Maximum Resolution - DKT31CMDPHPD

This docking station converts a single USB‑C or Thunderbolt 3 host port into a Compact multi‑port hub for workstation use. It provides a single external 4K display output via HDMI 2.0b or Mini DisplayPort using DP Alt‑Mode and delivers power pass‑through using USB Power Delivery 3.0 so laptops and peripherals can be powered while connected.

Features and Benefits:

• 4K60Hz video output minimises motion artefacts on high‑resolution displays
• 10Gbps USB 3.2 data rates enable fast file transfers to peripherals
• 100W PD pass‑through supplies up to 85W for laptop charging
• 12in attached cable reduces port strain for tablets and laptops
• BC1.2 charge port offers dedicated charging for devices

Applications

• Used with MacBook Pro and Dell XPS for single‑display workstation setups
• Suitable for connecting ultrawide or 4K monitors via mDP to DP cable
• Ideal for Chromebooks and ultrabooks requiring multiple USB ports
• Used for powering peripherals while charging a host laptop simultaneously

Which host port capabilities are required for full video functionality?

The host USB‑C port must support DP Alt‑Mode to enable 4K video output.

How is power allocated when an external adapter is connected?

The adapter reserves 15W for its own operation and can pass through up to 85W to the host.

What USB port types and speeds are available on the hub?

The unit provides three USB‑A ports and one USB‑C data port, each supporting up to 10Gbps, with one USB‑A port offering BC1.2 charging.

Can it connect to Thunderbolt hosts and what is supported?

It is compatible with Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 4 hosts and functions over those ports when the host supports the required Alt‑Mode features.
