Countersink cutter drill bits are designed to fit directly into manual, electric and cordless drill driver attachments and have hexagonal or round shanks. When should you countersink?
Countersinking is done to ensure that flat head screws sit flush to the work piece. A countersink produces a conical hole matching the angle of the screw so that when the screw is fully engaged the head will sit flush or slightly below the surface. If you do not countersink the hole first, the screw may tear the fibres of the material leaving you with a rough work surface.
