The component is made of 304-grade stainless steel which is resistant to corrosion, so there's little chance of it rusting. This means you can use it outdoors too, including for above-water marine applications. It comes with a silicone seal that's resistant to heat and chemicals, so its integrity won't be affected by abrasive cleaning agents or high-temperature pressure washes. The seal also improves hygiene conditions as it makes the latch air-tight and stops contaminants from entering, such as dirt or water.
