It screws into redundant openings left when you remove a cable from your system, preventing the build-up of dust and moisture and eliminating the risk of disruption and damage to your electrical system. When installed, the plug has an ingress protection rating of IP68, so it's waterproof and dust-tight. As it's made from corrosion-resistant nickel-plated brass, it's suitable for use in damp and humid environments.
